I headed off to Hong Kong in August of last year with my university for a study trip. While we spent time on education things we also got quite a lot of time to explore Hong Kong. This was my first trip to Hong Kong and I fell in love the first moment I stepped out of my hotel. If it's your first trip or you're just looking for ideas here are 10 things to do in Hong Kong.

Stanley Market

1. Stanley Market: Head down to the Stanley Market on the bus for some great shopping and beautiful scenery.

2. Ladies Market (Mong Kok): If you want to do some serious budget shopping head to the Ladies Market in Mong Kok. You can easily catch the MTR (subway) to Mong Kok station and it's right there.

3. Ride the MTR (subway): Pick up an Octopus card and ride the MTR around Hong Kong, it's super easy, clean and gets you to all the places you want to go to.

Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade

4. Catch the ferry to Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade: If you're on Hong Kong Island catch the ferry over to Tsim Sha Tsui promenade. It's a great view of Hong Kong across the water and there's plenty of food and shops to check out as well.

5. Shop in Tsim Sha Tsui: Now you're in Tsim Sha Tsui, if you're feeling like some shopping this is one of the best places to be. You've got iSquare or Harbour City if you're looking for some more up market shopping.

View from The Peak

6. Catch the Tram up to Victoria Peak: For the best view of Hong Kong, catch The Peak tram up to Victoria Peak. Other than the amazing view, there's shopping and plenty of places to eat. Make sure you walk around the gardens for the best views.

7. Eat Dumplings: Need I say more, find a restaurant and try some authentic dumplings. You will not be disappointed.

Central-Mid-Levels Escalator

8. Ride the longest outdoor covered escalator in the world: Instead of walking up streets and streets to get around this area of Hong Kong, jump on the Central-Mid-Levels Escalator. You get to see a lot of things along the way as well as taking a break from walking around in the heat for a bit.

9. Party in Lan Kwai Fong: If you're after a whole bunch of bars in one place, then Lan Kwai Fong is the place to go. You have everything from dirt cheap shots bars to much nicer (and more expensive) bars. You will see a lot of tourists but it's fun for a night out.

10. Dine in SoHo: If you're looking for some delicious food, head to SoHo where there are a huge amount of restaurants, street food and bars.
